News / Cisne Branco will not start in The Tall Ships Races
The Brazilian "White Swan" had to withdraw from the tall ships regatta. The vessel has been struggling with an engine failure for several days.
According to information provided by the Brazilian Navy, the Cisne Branco will remain in Lisbon until the engine is repaired. This means that the ship cannot participate in this year's regatta and, therefore, will not arrive in Szczecin in time for the final.
The "White Swan" – as Cisne Branco is called – is a ship of the Brazilian navy. The powerful, 74-meter-long tall ship was built in a Dutch shipyard in Amsterdam. It is the third Cisne Branco in Brazil. The first, a 15-meter classic yacht, was designed by Alfred Mylne and built by Alexander Robertson in 1910.
This year's Tall Ships Races will start in Klaipeda, Lithuania, this coming Sunday. The ships will race for five weeks on the route Klaipeda – Helsinki – Tallinn – Turku – Mariehamn – Szczecin. The final of the regatta will take place in Szczecin from August 2nd to 5th.
