News / Linking the banks of the Oder river
Two new river crossings will link the banks of the Oder river for the time of our sailing festival. The pontoon bridges will be open for guests in the afternoon on 1 August.
Pontoon bridges always give rise to huge interest not only due to facilitating the crossing to the other side of the river, but also because of their unique form and workmanship. Soldiers setting the bridges have already begun their work, and the first elements were transported to Szczecin in mid-July.
“The plan is to complete the crossings by 31 July and open them for the residents of Szczecin and tourists on 1 August in the afternoon,” said Celina Wołosz, Spokesperson for the Żegluga Szczecińska Turystyka Wydarzenia company. “To make access easier and improve throughput, there will be one-way traffic on the bridges only.”
We will have two bridges this year, so that more people can use them conveniently and safely. The north bridge leading to Łasztownia will be built by the 8th Sapper Battalion from Dziwnów, and the southern one by the 5th Engineering Regiment from Szczecin. Both bridges will be about 90 metres long. During each edition of the sailing festival, additional crossings are located between the Castle Route and Długi Bridge.
The bridges will be completed on Wednesday, 31 July, and they should be opened for the public on 1 August in the afternoon. They will stay in place by Sunday, 4 August, until late in the evening. The disassembly will begin on Monday morning. Over 40 soldiers have been designated to handle the bridge work.
