News / Only 3 months to go until the final of The Tall Ships Races!
In 88 days, Szczecin will celebrate the end of the biggest regatta on the Baltic Sea. From August 2nd to 5th, Wały Chrobrego and Łasztownia will host hundreds of sailors from all over the world. Don’t forget to mark this date in your calendar!
The list of vessels that have announced their visit to Szczecin currently includes 9 A-class sailing ships. These are ships with square rigging and over 40 metres in length. These largest and most beautiful sailing ships in the world will be moored at Wały Chrobrego and Starówka Quay, presenting themselves in all their splendour. In the second half of April, the Polish training ship ORP ISKRA joined the regatta.
On April 13th, we began a series of training sessions for liaison officers. Over the course of two days, a group of about 60 volunteers integrated and already practised receiving vessels. A pleasant surprise awaited the Polish Navy ships, ORP Albatros and ORP Mewa. A spectacular welcome stole the hearts of the soldiers of the 3rd Coastal Defence Flotilla in Gdynia. The liaison officers also took part in creative games and workshops, and listened to a safety lecture. Further meetings are scheduled, the next one on May 18th. All this is to ensure that the crews from all over the world, who will soon be arriving in Szczecin, are looked after efficiently and professionally. Sailors also need to prepare for the regatta. The representation of Szczecin in The Tall Ships Races will sail on two ships: Dar Szczecina and Zryw.
The finale of The Tall Ships Races is the perfect reason to come to Szczecin. Tourists from all over Poland will be visiting us this August weekend. We will also be at our western neighbours’ with a Meet Szczecin – Visit Szczecin promotional stand. We will be visiting Stralsund, Angermunde, Berlin and Greiswald, among others, to invite German tourists to Szczecin. The stand will promote not only the final, but also Szczecin as an ideal tourist destination, combining architectural heritage and history, with greenery and water.
