Information

Zryw - a Polish single-masted sailing yacht of the Taurus class. She is one of the three (along with Dar Szczecin and Urtica) yachts owned by the city of Szczecin.

The yacht Zryw was built in 1978 at the Leonid Teliga Maritime Yachting Yard. The designers of the yacht were Kazimierz "Kuba" Jaworski and Czeslaw Gogolkiewicz. Taurus, as this was the name of the class of yachts they designed, was to be primarily fast. The result of their work was a less than 11-meter yacht, with many unusual solutions for those times.

However, the history of yachts of this class has shown that these vessels, although fast and maneuverable, require from captains a great deal of feeling especially in difficult weather conditions. The mainsail must be reefed (reduced in sail area) very quickly - otherwise the yacht becomes so strongly windward that the helmsman is unable to keep the yacht on course. In extreme situations - and with strong helmsmen - it has happened that crews have broken the rudder (Breach in a storm near Bornholm in 2002). This year the yacht is celebrating its 45th anniversary.
